Random Thought of the day

To what extent does time distort memory?
I read the line in a book and as a fan of history it intrigues me.

Any system built on memory will ultimately fail. Photograph it. Document it. Label it. Store it. Journal it. Read it to your children and your children's children.

Here's my question: How much will the advent of the cam-corder, immediate photographs, 0r the current trend of scrap booking color the memories of our children. One reason I scrap book is so that the girl will be able to see it as it actually was...not what she thinks it was like. I wonder how my own thoughts of my mother and father would change if I really knew how I was at the time and was able to see it through adult eyes.

I agree but some things can't be captured that way. The smell of tar as it's applied to the roofs in Philly, your heartbeat when you experience your first kiss, your first broken heart, the thrill of your children being born... pictures and mementos might capture some of it but it leaves out the best part. For me, music has a way of returning me to some of those experiences.
